It's Not Easy Going Green

I'm happily reading Gorgeously Green by Sophie Uliano. It's got the Oprah seal of approval, so you know I'm all over it.

Since moving out West, I've definitely become more granola, but not in the Birkenstocks-I-wanna-look-like-Jesus kind of way, no. My body and mind led me to the decision to make a conscious effort to be more green. If our country wasn't stuck in a two-party system, I would totally join the Green Party. My ethics and morals are more aligned with what that party believes, but I got to vote for Obama!!!

Anyway, I got side-tracked: so I'm reading this book and lemme tell you! Capitalism has led to toxic chemicals being put in every fucking thing!!! Dishwashing liquid, face creams, lotions, soaps, household cleaning products, even....vinyl shower curtains!!! This bitch can make an argument for everything. I am slowly going green though.

I kind of explained above how my mind led me to this place, well here's where it gets super real:

I started getting red, irritated itchy-ass armpits!!! I had contact dermatitis, which is a fancy way for saying "skin irritation most likely called by some toxic chemicals you put on or in your body!!! (eeeewww, there's so many gross pics on google pics of different kinds of contact dermatitis, mine's looked kind of like this - mild, thank goodness!)

I saw a pattern emerge, when I wore deodorant (and I'm talking Tom's of Maine and that Crystal Stick shit, already "natural") my pits would get irritated. Also when I shaved (now I use all natch shave cream and moisty strip razor and it's better) it would get fucked....now I am a lotion and pure cornstarch girl. That's all that goes on my pits and I am liberated!!!

Now that I have slowly begun incorporating eco-friendly products and ways on living in my life, I feel like, "Uh it's not enough!" Whateves. I'm of the world-on-your-shoulders-type.

Alright, gotta head off and start my day...Go Green!!! Do it! Just be conscious of what you consume and ways you can reduce, reuse and recycle! I also really recommend her book, of course.
